Rated VS Non-Rated
There are two major distinctions of officer jobs in the Air Force, rated jobs and non-rated officer jobs. In a rated job, your work is either on a plane or you are flying a remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). If you don't want to fly and as a result feel the Air Force isn't for you, do not fear! A majority of officers in the Air Force are not rated and still contribute to the mission.
Knowing what if you want to go rated or not is very important, especially when you are going up to be selected for Field Training. If you say you want to go rated and are given a rated enrollment slot (EA) you will be going up for the rated boards. However, if you decide to compete for a non-rated EA, then you are not locked into being a rated officer, but you still have the option to go rated.
